Great Family Activity Ideas by Jonathon Hardcastle

If you've got some time off, there's no better way to unwind from the stresses and strains of the rat race than to spend a day with the family. What's more, there are loads of great ideas for spending a day with your family, that will cost you next to nothing. And you don't have to go too far from home to experience a great time, with such a wide variety of great activity ideas in your local area.

One of the best ideas for spending a day with the family is to think about something you all enjoy. Why not take the kids on a fishing trip, or how a weekend camping? Alternatively you can take the kids on a riverside picnic. Either way, just spending some bonding time with your family can be a great way to forget about your daily worries. And what's more, it can also help build bridges within your family, which can lay the foundations for a stronger future relationship

One thing that all families can appreciate is a good old-fashioned trip to the zoo. Zoo trips, although relatively costly, can sometimes allow savings by way of family tickets. It is always a good idea if you're planning a zoo trip to phone up beforehand for information about opening times, and the discounts you can be likely to expect. A trip to the zoo can be a great way to pass the time on a nice day, but it's always a good idea to make sure the weather is going to be nice on the day.

Additionally, many museums offer free entry, or at least free entry for kids, which can vastly reduce the cost of any day out. On top of that, by bringing your own picnic basket, you can have a greatly reduced lunch, and an overall fun day out. Furthermore, museums are also very educational, which can make it a very worthwhile day overall.

Spending a day with the family is a great way to unwind after a hard week at work. Not only does it help you forget about your stresses, but it also helps you bond with your family, which can be great fun and a great way to spend a day or two. What's more, with so many cheap activity ideas that the whole family can enjoy, there really is no excuse for not making the time to share some fun times with your family.

Welcome to a new Christmas tradition! by Adam Singleton

Festive traditions have changed across the generations, but one thing remains constant and that is our desire to contact absent family and friends on Christmas Day. We all cherish our nearest and dearest, but if some of them have moved abroad, for example to pursue career opportunities, they are missed most at important family times such as Christmas.

In an oft repeated scene throughout the UK, many families will excitedly crowd around the telephone on Christmas Day in order to exchange a few garbled festive greetings to their loved ones in far flung places. But however anxious they are to wish each other a happy Christmas, conversations are often brief as everyone is mindful of the substantial expense of making international phone calls.

Now, as the festive season is in full swing and the big day is rapidly approaching it̢۪s time to think about how and when to contact those relatives and friends. These days there are more options available than having to make international calls at extortionate rates on the traditional home phone. Thanks to the combination of widespread broadband availability and increased internet usage, communication with those far-flung relatives has never been easier or cheaper. Select providers on the internet now offer free or extremely affordable communication options through VOIP (Voice over internet protocol) which include high-quality video conferencing, as well as voice calls.

All it takes to stay in touch is to ensure that friends and family have the same VOIP software as you, and then you can make and receive free calls to them via your PC. It is also an extremely useful way of keeping in touch with other members of your family or your friends who have not emigrated but may just be visiting foreign countries. Fill them in on all the latest news from home and find out what they been doing on their travels, as well as wishing them a Merry Christmas.

Additionally, free calls on the internet are also very useful for contacting friends and family who reside in the UK. It is as easy and convenient as using the traditional phone, but most providers also allow you to make video calls too. Just like with traditional phones, if the person you are ringing is not available, you can leave them a voice message and they can return your call later with their season̢۪s greetings.

For many families who have relatives all over the world, making free calls to them on the internet will undoubtedly become part of their traditional family Christmas, as well as a great way to keep in touch all year round.

Happy Days Out For The Whole Family
Author: Heywood Hall | Submitted: 2006-06-03

A day out with the family always seems like a great idea – until you discover that everyone has different ideas about where they’d like to go and what they want to do. Particularly true in families that have children across a wide age range, it makes it difficult to find something that pleases everyone.

Traditionally, theme parks have been the preserve of older children and thrill-seeking adults, but these parks, especially those in Europe, have followed the USA’s model of providing a range of rides and activities that suit all ages.

1. Adults

Just because you’re an adult it doesn’t necessarily follow that you love thrill rides. Those who do can happily spend all day queuing for roller coasters and water rides, always on the lookout for the scariest experience or the most extreme ride. Others may prefer more sedate boat rides, scenic walks or sophisticated shopping. A park that can cater for the less adventurous parents and grandparents will often manage to lure the whole family through the gates.

2. Teenagers

The majority of teenagers love rides; and the faster, scarier and more daredevil the better. Teens can usually be allowed to roam the park without adult supervision, just meeting up for lunch or for a family ride. The enclosed environment of the park, together with modern safety measures and the convenience of mobile phones mean that teenagers can have their independence and parents can relax.

3. Younger children

Extreme rides have height, and health warnings allow parents to decide what sorts of rides are suitable for younger children. Whilst some kids want to experience the bigger rides, others are happier with theatre shows, low-thrill rides and other experiences.

A theme park that can cater for the whole family offers value for money as well as a great day out. It allows parents to share experiences with their kids, it gives teenagers the independence they need, and it gives everyone something to talk about on the journey home. A good theme park indulges all the senses and usually leaves you wanting more – so why not go back again tomorrow?

Family as an Integral Part of each Human Being. by Andrew Schwartz

The alliteration and accretion of ideas in "hating, hurting, hissing" demonstrates the degree of their hostility, which not even Fish can get rid of. It is not until Wax Harry is born that the divisions in "Cloud street" are resigned, and "the house breathes is first effortless breath in half a century". The epitome of the house shows that it represents the total of Australia, and by doing this Winton suggests that agreement and happiness can only come after settlement amid ALL of its peoples takes place. This thought is reinforced by Quick, when he realizes that "It's us, and us, and us." Clearly Winton's idea of the future encompasses cultural agreement among all Australians. Winton cements the procedure through Fish's arrival to the river. Happiness and harmony at "Cloud Street" is Fish's present to the Lambs and the Pickles. The two families dance jointly, and this show of agreement is further reinforced in the ending, when the barrier is taken down, and Oriel moves back into "Cloud Street". Metaphorically, all barriers have been isolated, and all aspects of "Cloud Street" have been integrated into a fully functional entire. All that was disjointed in the beginning is pieced back as one. Winton brings us back full circle to the beginning, at last revealing that the whole story is Fish's last flashback. This round structure is indicative of Winton's vision that family life involves the fluctuation among fragmentation and integration, and suggests that once the cycle completes itself, agreement and happiness will go after. Winton weaves the relevant issues of individuality, gender and reconciliation in "Cloud Street" through the thought of family. Family is shown to be an integral part of our lives. In a society which is very much fragmented, "Cloud Street" captures a sense of homesickness for a time. In short, "Cloud Street" is a moving epic which seeks to be reminiscent us of the importance of family.

A Family Vacation Getaway In One Of The Best Luxury Hotels In Krabi Thailand by Peter R Stewart

So far as luxury hotels go anywhere in the Far East, the Rayavadee in Krabi Thailand is as good if not better than most other luxury hotels.

It is a great beach vacation hotel, with 77 rooms, perfect for a family vacation getaway, and equally fantastic for a honeymoon vacation special deal.

The Rayavadee has to be seen to be believed and everything from the staff to the accommodation, to the grounds, the beaches, and the food are close to being perfect. Krabi is possibly one of the most beautiful places on earth so it is just the perfect position for the Rayavadee.

You have to get to Rayavadee by boat, and the first thing that will strike you is the boat. White leather upholstery and the crew all in matching sailors uniforms. Initial impressions are lasting ones, and this certainly makes you feel you are going to a luxury resort. Moving from the speedboat to reception, the impression continues with details all being taken whilst sitting down with hot towels and drinks, which beats standing around a crowded reception area any time.

The accommodation is top class, and if you are on a family vacation getaway there is the family villa with two bedrooms, one on the ground floor, the extra bedroom being the only difference from the De Luxe Pavilion

A two storey villa, and it is so well equipped with all mod cons. It is the small touches like the bathroom own brand products, the bottles of water everywhere, tea, coffee, and biscuits replaced every day. More food and drinks in a huge sideboard, and chocolates left every night by the bed.

A huge bath which holds two, is a feature of the bathroom, and a huge bed are all part of the ambiance.

A great luxury resort has great food, and on a family vacation getaway with hungry kids to feed, this is a very important consideration. If the reader is considering the Rayavadee for a Beach honeymoon vacation special then food is probably high on your agenda.

You will find the restaurants at the Rayavadee are all of the very best, with impeccable service in each of the four different restaurants. It is fair to say that food is not cheap but the views are just out of this world, and you may find it sensible to go down the beach and eat instead, where you will pay perhaps $15 instead of $100, and get genuine Thai food. It's perfectly safe and worth the effort.

If you want to be active, then there is lots to do from kayaking through the sea caves hiking, swimming, snorkelling, tennis.

The service from the staff could not be more helpful, you will be treated like royalty.in every way. The only downside is the service by the pool which seems to be on the slow side of slow, but always extremely polite.

They are exceptional apart from that small point in every way, and are a big part of the success of the Rayavedee.

Words cannot do justice to the incredibly beautiful beaches, especially the Phranang and Railey beaches which have powder white sand and views of islands in the distance with little caves to explore. Beware however of the monkeys, who although friendly are everywhere!!

All in all there is no doubt that the Rayavadee in Krabi is one of the best luxury hotels in the Far East. It is an ideal spot place for a family vacation getaway on some of the best beaches anywhere. It would also be a good choice for a honeymoon vacation special, so look out for some great honeymoon vacation deals.

Affordable Family Vacations by Sarah J Holt

Looking for affordable family vacations that will not break the bank or cause a protest from the young ones? This is easy to accomplish if you follow these tips.

Find Things Close To Home

Many people look into affordable family vacations without seeing what is close by. Often times you do not need to go very far to feel that you have left behind your ordinary life. Find a place in your state that you have not been to and center your vacation around that. This will save the time and money of flying or driving far. It can also be really fun to find places close by where you can return year after year for family fun and escape.

Choose Lodging Carefully

When looking at where to stay look beyond the cost. Find somewhere that is central to the areas you will be going to, has reasonable food options, and activities for the kids. One of the greatest money saver can be a place with a swimming pool for kids who like to swim. They can swim for hours, with the benefits of being free and burning off restless energy. Some also have basketball courts, free movies, or accessible walking trails. Another option to consider is choosing a hotel designed for business men, where there is a kitchen and larger common areas, such as a regular sized dining table.

Go As A Group

Have friends who are also on the search for affordable family vacations? Go as a group. A great way to do this is to rent a condo or house and agree on who will pay for what This option works best if you know the friends or family that you will be going with, since there is nothing worse than being stuck on vacation in an uncomfortable situation. The benefit to taking this approach is that you may be able to afford to go somewhere that otherwise would not have been an option because of cost.

Look For Packages

Affordable family vacations are often easier to plan with package deals. You can find packages for things like transportation and local attractions. If you will be going to a big city where there are many museums and landmarks, it is worth looking into a deal where one price is paid for admission to a group of them. Some package deals have to be purchased in advance and are limited by an expiration date, so be sure to double check if this is the case before heading out.

Go To See Family

Maybe you have parents or siblings in another state. Even if you have thought of this as an affordable family vacation, you may have vetoed the idea due to it not sounding fun. This does not have to be the case. Instead of focusing your vacation around being with extended family, you can focus on the trip there and back, and only stay for a couple of days. Just let the family members know that you will be in the area and would like to visit for a day or two. Then you can plan for a slow trip out and back, where you can stop at some fun sites along the way.

These are examples of affordable family vacations that exist. There is no reason that affordable has to mean boring, instead it can be just as fun and exciting as an expensive trip.

Your Child's First Family Christmas Party by J Gardener

The Christmas season is full of wonderful events that don't occur during the rest of the year. Besides all of the religious services and school pageants and civic events, most extended families have at least one large gathering, where a feast is prepared and presents are exchanged. It can be a wonderful time to renew relationships and reacquaint with family members from near and far.

As wonderful as these family events can be, many parents face them with at least a twinge of trepidation. There are usually family present, who haven't seen each other in years, sometimes since they were all kids, themselves. For parents of small children, these parties are often the first chance they've had to introduce their kids to the rest of their relations. It can be a daunting task, for some moms and dads.

Many parents worry that their child and their child's behavior will be judged closely by relatives at these parties. Any problems with either, some moms and dads feel, will reflect negatively on their own skills at parenting. As well, parents often worry that their children may react negatively to being in the midst of such a large gathering of what might be, essentially, strangers to the kids.

Much of this anxiety, while probably natural, is overblown by parents. They forget, sometimes, that in any situation their children really do want to appear to be good and well-behaved. Most of the time, kids really do want to please their parents. Sometimes, though, a six-year-old can't help acting like a six-year-old. It's not something that a parent should fret about.

Before attending such an event, parents can discuss with their children the kind of event they expect it to be, and the kind of behavioral rules that their kids need to observe. As well, parents should ensure that their kids have had plenty of rest and food, before leaving for the party.

Moms and dads can ready themselves for a family Christmas gathering, as well, by reminding themselves that even the best kids have their less-than-perfect moments. No matter how nice it might be for every single relative to think that your kid is the best ever, most of your adult relatives have been through parenthood, too. They know, as you do, that the best thing you can do when raising your children, is to let them know how much you love them. That way, every Christmas, and every Christmas party with your children, will be as special as it can be.
